Dakar, Senegal
Isle de Goree
This island was the
clearing house for all African slaves who were exported from Africa to
the America’s and Europe. We will transfer from the ship to a ferry.
The experience at Goree is almost beyond words, as you approach the
slave house and look at and through the "door of no return", where the
enslaved were kept and forced on boats to make the trip during the
transatlantic slave trade. We will tour island and slave house by
English speaking guide. He will discuss the mechanics of the holding
place that has affected the lives of so many. The island is very quaint
with lots of merchants selling colorful clothing and wares that have
great prices. The island is very tropical with wonderful beaches and
places to swim as well.
Pink Lake
We will drive from
the ship about 2 hours through the rural villages, stopping for mango
and visits along the way. The mango orchards are brilliant and then the
rural lane comes to a truly pink lake! We will walk the edges and even
be able to collect shells with pink coloring inside. It is a magical
place of serenity. We will enjoy a lunch brought from the ship at the
lake and return to Dakar in the late afternoon.
Dakar Markets Day
Enjoy a walking
tour down the beautiful tree lines streets. We pass the US Embassy
and 5 star hotels on our way to a colorful market tour.
Enjoy the bartering and bantering with the locals as you collect
baskets, antiques, frankincense and myrrh and so many more treasures to
bring home. We stop for lunch at one of the hotels to sip
something cool as we continue our day tour through the streets of this
pretty city.
